Job Title: Communications and Development Intern

Position Summary

 

AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps engages young Jews (ages 21-35) in direct work on the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. This work brings important resources to low income communities and equips our Corps members and alumni to emerge as lifelong agents for social change, whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values. After participants complete this intensive year-long program, AVODAH's partnership with the American Jewish World Service offers them a broad platform for long-term leadership in social change and Jewish life.

AVODAH seeks a creative and motivated intern in New York City. Interns will report to the Associate Executive Director and gain experience in communications/marketing and development work. Interns can have a flexible schedule so as not to conflict with an individual’s school schedule. Internships will be somewhat tailored to an individual’s specific skills and interests. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in social justice, communications, writing, and/or philanthropy.

The intern will work to maintain and expand marketing materials to advance development efforts. We are looking for someone who can work 10-12 hours a week. The schedule can be reasonably flexible, provided the candidate can work through December 2009, with the possibility of a new internship term at the start of the next semester. Positions are based in mid-town Manhattan. Internships are unpaid.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in communications and in advancing social justice by working in a Jewish organization. 

Duties include:

  • Interviewing and writing about the work of current Corps members & Alumni
  • Organizing packets of information for donors and potential donors
  • Helping connect between donors and program participants
  • Researching donors and foundation prospects
  • Handling administrative responsibilities including managing files & contact lists.

We strongly prefer graduate students.

Candidates should have:

• Excellent written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as to multitask effectively

• Some type of marketing experience is strongly preferred

• Familiarity with MS Office applications a must;
