Job Title: Communications and Development Intern

Location: New York, NY

Position Summary

AVODAH is seeking a Communications and Development Intern who will create and maintain marketing materials at AVODAH that help advance development efforts. AVODAH is looking for someone who can work 12-15 hours a week. The schedule can be reasonably flexible, provided the candidate can work through December 2008, with the possibility of a new internship term at the start of the next semester. Positions are based in mid-town Manhattan. Internships are unpaid.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in communications and in advancing social justice by working in a Jewish organization.

Responsibilities

  • Writing, proofreading, and editing AVODAH’s fall newsletter
  • Editing, proofreading, and writing web content
  • Interviewing and writing about the work of current Corps members & Alumni
  • Organizing packets of information for donors and potential donors
  • Researching donors and foundation prospects
  • Handling administrative responsibilities including managing files & contact lists
Interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time engaged in administrative support to staff. Potential interns should be undergraduates or graduate students.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as to multitask effectively
  • Some type of journalist experience is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications a must
  • A personal interest in marketing, communications is preferred
