Chicago
Welcome to Chi-Town
There are currently two batim ("houses") in Chicago. Each has five bedrooms and is located on the north side of the city. The first apartment is in Andersonville, a historically Swedish neighborhood, and the second is in Lakeview, near historic Wrigley Field. Each neighborhood's popularity has exploded – making them two of the most vibrant and exciting neighborhoods in the city. They each are home to a diverse group of residents, including young families and a large gay and lesbian population.
Uptown, the neighborhood just south of the Andersonville bayit and north of the Lakeview bayit, is even more diverse—some call it the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in Chicago. It is home to Vietnamese, Native-American, Japanese-American, Latino, African-American, as well as Appalachian populations.
The batim are located less than two miles apart. Many bus lines, and the red-line and brown-line trains are a short walk from the bayits. The Chicago lakefront is a quick bus ride or twenty minute walk from either house.
Withinin a 15-30 minute stroll from the Chicago houses, Corps members can walk to Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative synagogues. Additional synagogues are easily accessible by bus.
Currently the Chicago program has fourteen Corps members. View the full listing of the 2008-2009 Chicago placement organizations.
